Shiva Trilogy (Book Review)

THE IMMORTALS OF MELUHA (Book 1)

Synopsis :

The story of the man, whom legend turned into a God.

1900 BC. In what modern Indians mistakenly call the Indus valley civilization.

The inhabitants of that period called the land of Meluha – a near perfect empire created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived.

This once proud empire and its Suryavanshis rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of Chandravanshis. To make matters worse, the Chandravanshis appear to have allied with the Nagas, an ostracised and sinister race of deformed humans with astonishing martial skills.

The only hope for the Suryavanshis is an ancient legend: ‘When evil reaches epic proportions, when all seems lost, when it appears that your enemies have triumphed, a hero will emerge.’
Is that rough-hewn Tibetan immigrant Shiva, really that hero?

Review :

I have always desired to read a mythological fiction. When I happened to know there is a series based on Shiva, I quickly laid my hand on these books.

Amish has created staggering characters using the perfect choice of words. His writing style abruptly drags the readers into his unimpeachable world.

Shiva – a good fighter and a great chief of his guna tribe. His characteristics stands out from everyone. His braveness and rectitude are out of bounds. These qualities change his destiny forever.

Sati – princess of Meluha. She is committed towards her dharma. Her righteousness makes her even more beautiful.

Their love sets the floor on fire.

“A person’s ethics and character are not tested in good times. It is only in bad times that a person shows how steadfast he is to his dharma.”

Story revolves around so many characters yet it didn’t flunk even once and it’s developments are praiseworthy.

When Shiva becomes the Neelkanth, the purpose of his life is revealed and then the real battle begins.

This book perfectly engages the readers towards its end and the suspense makes them to pick up its sequel.

THE SECRET OF THE NAGAS (Book 2)

Synopsis :

The hunt is on. The sinister Naga warrior has killed his friend Brahaspati and now stalks his wife Sati. Shiva’s vengeance and the path to evil will lead him to the door of the Nagas, the serpent people. Of that he is certain.

A kingdom dying as it is held to ransom for a miracle drug. A crown prince is murdered. The vasudevs – shiva’s philosopher guide – betray his unquestioning faith as they take the aid of the dark side. Even the perfect empire Meluha is riddled with a terrible secret in Maika, the city of births. Unknown to Shiva, a master puppeteer is playing a grand game.

Review :

Story is getting crowded with so many new characters, but everyone serves their purpose.

Shiva searches for the truth in a land of mysteries. He finds that nothing is what it seems. He is unable to discern which is good and evil.

His journey reveals so many secrets and eventually helps him to find the deep hidden truth. Finally, everything falls into place to start a even more fearsome battle.

“Truth doesn’t have to be liked. It only has to be spoken. Speak it out. The truth may hurt you, but it will set you free.”

Story pace travels in a phenomenal way. New characters are deftly connected with the old ones.

At the end, when the secret of the Nagas is revealed – you will run to pick up the last book of this series.

THE OATH OF THE VAYUPUTRAS (Book 3)

Synopsis :

Shiva is gathering his forces. He reaches the Naga capital, Panchavati and evil is finally revealed. The Neelkanth prepares for a holy war against his true enemy, a man whose name instils dread in the fiercest of warriors.

India convulses under the onslaught of a series of brutal battles. It’s a war for the very soul of the nation. Many will die. But Shiva must not fail, no matter what the cost. In his desperation, he reaches out to the ones who have never offered any help to him: the Vayuputras.

Will he succeed? And what will be the real cost of battling Evil? To India? And to Shiva’s soul?

Review :

Karthik – son of Shiva and Sati. He is the youngest in the battle field but his warrior skills are unmatchable.

Ganesh – one of the leader of Nagas. His goodness and care for his people is admirable.

This book is the longest one in this trilogy. It renders so many characters, battles, braveness of the warriors.

Few scenes are emotionally well crafted that you can’t help but shed some tears of yours.

Each scene’s depictions are thorough-going.

“It was better to commit mistakes on the path that one’s soul is meant to walk on, than to live a perfect life on a path that is not meant for one’s soul.”

In this last book, you will discover every answer to your questions from the beginning of this story. All are logically well bound together.

Overall, Shiva trilogy’s “Too much of anything is good for nothing” message using Somras is highly appreciative.

I highly recommend this book to all the lovers of mythological fiction and to the fans of Amish.

Happy reading!!!

Awe (Movie Review)

May 16, 2020 0 Comments

Title : Awe
Genre : Psychological thriller
Language : Telugu
Running time : 110 minutes
Released : 2018
Rating : 3/5

Synopsis :

Awe story involves around a psychiatrist with her girlfriend, a chef, a watchman who aspire to become a scientist, a restaurant owner with her little daughter, a magician, a waitress and a main character who is linked to all these characters.

Review :

I know it’s too late to give a review for this movie. But, I really want to give a review for this peculiar film which still clings to my mind.

Krishnaveni (Nithya Menon) is a psychiatrist. Her entry in this film gives surprise. Her characterisation, attitude and acting skills are top notch. Her friend's (Eesha Rebba) acting is up to scratch.

Nala (Priyadarshi Pullikonda) pretends to be a chef. He is trying hard to grab the chef position with the help of goldfish named Nani (voiceover Nani) and a bonsai tree named Chanti (voiceover Ravi Teja). His parts are quite relaxing in the film.

Shiva (Srinivas Avasarala) is a watchman who aspires to become a scientist. He is trying to invent time machine while Parvathy (Devadarshini) makes her entry and claims that she is his future self. Both are smashingly good at their roles, especially Parvathy.

Restaurant owner (Pragathi) and her little daughter Moksha are apt for their roles. Moksha meets Yogi (Murali Sharma) an egoist magician and eventually starts a cold war with him.

Mira (Regina Cassandra) is a waitress and a drug addict. Her boyfriend plans to rob money from some investor with her help. Mira comes to know about the story behind the restaurant while some horrific things start to show up in front of her. She extraordinarily gave real soul to her character.

Kali (Kajal Agarwal) is a main character who connects all the characters in some way.

Awe is a really awesome psychological thriller which perfectly gives an overview about psychology in an ineffable poetic way. Cinematography works are excellent. All the characters are well developed. Magician part slows down the story pace. Interval block is well plotted. Climax connects all the dots which are perfectly hidden from the start.

Overall, it’s a freshly scripted story about psychology with the touch of thriller from a debutant director.

I highly recommend this movie to all the fans who wants unique plotline with amusing storytelling and also to the lovers of psychological thriller.

Happy watching!!!

Sherlock (Series Review)

May 06, 2020 0 Comments

Title : Sherlock
Genre : Detective, Crime
Language : English
Episodes : 13 (Seasons - 4)
Released : 2010 - 2017
Rating : 4.8/5

Synopsis :

Sherlock depicts "consulting detective" Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) solving various mysteries in modern-day London. Holmes is assisted by his flatmate and friend, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman), who has returned from military service in Afghanistan with the Royal Army Medical Corps. Although Metropolitan Police Service Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves) and others are suspicious of Holmes at first, over time, his exceptional intellect and bold powers of observation persuade them of his value. In part through Watson's blog documenting their adventures, Holmes becomes a reluctant celebrity with the press reporting on his cases and eccentric personal life. Both ordinary people and the British government ask for his help.

Although the series represents a variety of crimes and perpetrators, Holmes' conflict with nemesis Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) is a recurring feature. Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey), a pathologist at St. Bart's Hospital, occasionally assists Holmes in his cases. Other recurring roles include Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Holmes and Watson's landlady, and series co-creator Mark Gatiss as Holmes' elder brother Mycroft.

Review :

I’m a huge fan of Sherlock from my childhood. I know I’m super late to pick up this series now. Anyways, better late than never. This series is based on detective stories of Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Sherlock's character sticks out in a stupendous way. His intellectual perspectives stir your thoughts inquisitively. Dr. John Watson is a pertinent partner for Sherlock. They solve each crime meticulously.

Dr. Watson's and Mary Morstan's love stands out even in engaging crime scenes.

Each episode is portrayed adroitly. Background music is an absolute delight. Shooting locations are perfectly selected. Costumes for the whole cast are well chosen.

The bonding of Sherlock and his elder brother Mycroft is strong in unique ways. You are unable to differentiate whether they are foe or friendly brothers.

Molly Hooper is one of my favourites characters. Her love for Sherlock is immensely unconditional.

Each episode is unique in their own way and keeps us intriguing in all possible ways. My most favourite episodes are “The blind banker”, “A scandal in belgravia”, “The hounds of baskerville”, “His last vow” and Of course “The final problem”.

Overall, it’s an ingenious crime detective story.

I highly recommend this series to the lovers of crime fiction, thriller and mystery. And mainly to the fans of Sherlock Holmes.

Happy watching!!!
