Shiva Trilogy (Book Review)

THE IMMORTALS OF MELUHA (Book 1)

Synopsis :

The story of the man, whom legend turned into a God.

1900 BC. In what modern Indians mistakenly call the Indus valley civilization.

The inhabitants of that period called the land of Meluha – a near perfect empire created many centuries earlier by Lord Ram, one of the greatest monarchs that ever lived.

This once proud empire and its Suryavanshis rulers face severe perils as its primary river, the revered Saraswati, is slowly drying to extinction. They also face devastating terrorist attacks from the east, the land of Chandravanshis. To make matters worse, the Chandravanshis appear to have allied with the Nagas, an ostracised and sinister race of deformed humans with astonishing martial skills.

The only hope for the Suryavanshis is an ancient legend: ‘When evil reaches epic proportions, when all seems lost, when it appears that your enemies have triumphed, a hero will emerge.’
Is that rough-hewn Tibetan immigrant Shiva, really that hero?

Review :

I have always desired to read a mythological fiction. When I happened to know there is a series based on Shiva, I quickly laid my hand on these books.

Amish has created staggering characters using the perfect choice of words. His writing style abruptly drags the readers into his unimpeachable world.

Shiva – a good fighter and a great chief of his guna tribe. His characteristics stands out from everyone. His braveness and rectitude are out of bounds. These qualities change his destiny forever.

Sati – princess of Meluha. She is committed towards her dharma. Her righteousness makes her even more beautiful.

Their love sets the floor on fire.

“A person’s ethics and character are not tested in good times. It is only in bad times that a person shows how steadfast he is to his dharma.”

Story revolves around so many characters yet it didn’t flunk even once and it’s developments are praiseworthy.

When Shiva becomes the Neelkanth, the purpose of his life is revealed and then the real battle begins.

This book perfectly engages the readers towards its end and the suspense makes them to pick up its sequel.

THE SECRET OF THE NAGAS (Book 2)

Synopsis :

The hunt is on. The sinister Naga warrior has killed his friend Brahaspati and now stalks his wife Sati. Shiva’s vengeance and the path to evil will lead him to the door of the Nagas, the serpent people. Of that he is certain.

A kingdom dying as it is held to ransom for a miracle drug. A crown prince is murdered. The vasudevs – shiva’s philosopher guide – betray his unquestioning faith as they take the aid of the dark side. Even the perfect empire Meluha is riddled with a terrible secret in Maika, the city of births. Unknown to Shiva, a master puppeteer is playing a grand game.

Review :

Story is getting crowded with so many new characters, but everyone serves their purpose.

Shiva searches for the truth in a land of mysteries. He finds that nothing is what it seems. He is unable to discern which is good and evil.

His journey reveals so many secrets and eventually helps him to find the deep hidden truth. Finally, everything falls into place to start a even more fearsome battle.

“Truth doesn’t have to be liked. It only has to be spoken. Speak it out. The truth may hurt you, but it will set you free.”

Story pace travels in a phenomenal way. New characters are deftly connected with the old ones.

At the end, when the secret of the Nagas is revealed – you will run to pick up the last book of this series.

THE OATH OF THE VAYUPUTRAS (Book 3)

Synopsis :

Shiva is gathering his forces. He reaches the Naga capital, Panchavati and evil is finally revealed. The Neelkanth prepares for a holy war against his true enemy, a man whose name instils dread in the fiercest of warriors.

India convulses under the onslaught of a series of brutal battles. It’s a war for the very soul of the nation. Many will die. But Shiva must not fail, no matter what the cost. In his desperation, he reaches out to the ones who have never offered any help to him: the Vayuputras.

Will he succeed? And what will be the real cost of battling Evil? To India? And to Shiva’s soul?

Review :

Karthik – son of Shiva and Sati. He is the youngest in the battle field but his warrior skills are unmatchable.

Ganesh – one of the leader of Nagas. His goodness and care for his people is admirable.

This book is the longest one in this trilogy. It renders so many characters, battles, braveness of the warriors.

Few scenes are emotionally well crafted that you can’t help but shed some tears of yours.

Each scene’s depictions are thorough-going.

“It was better to commit mistakes on the path that one’s soul is meant to walk on, than to live a perfect life on a path that is not meant for one’s soul.”

In this last book, you will discover every answer to your questions from the beginning of this story. All are logically well bound together.

Overall, Shiva trilogy’s “Too much of anything is good for nothing” message using Somras is highly appreciative.

I highly recommend this book to all the lovers of mythological fiction and to the fans of Amish.

Happy reading!!!
